Le Japon est en proie à la guerre tout au long du XIIème siècle. Une jeune princesse attend le retour de son bien aimé tout en essayant d'endiguer la jalousie de sa soeur à son égard. Mais cette dernière se venge en la défigurant. Par peur de ne pouvoir soutenir le regard de son bien aimé elle se suicide en se noyant dans les eaux d'un lac. Plus tard elle sera imitée par l'être qui l'aimait. Et leur histoire loin de s'achever ainsi perdurera au long des siècles, les deux amoureux étant toujours persécutés par la vengence d'Akane. Mais une lueur d'espoir nait avec une jeune fille au visage défiguré...
