Un autocollant sur la couverture prépare le lecteur : "Réservé à un public averti" car il s'agit en fait d'une BD érotique. Cependant, on est loin d'un Troubles fêtes de Loisel : le texte n'est pas juste un prétexte pour de jolies illustrations plutôt crues. On est ici dans l'érotisme, pas du tout dans la pornographie. Le scénario de Jee-Yun est plutôt bien construit, et en retirant la douzaine de planches "dénudées" sur les 62 que compte l'album, on obtient une BD tout à fait "conventionnelle", avec une histoire qui tient la route, un personnage principal qui cherche des réponses aux questions soulevées par son étrange (més)aventure nocturne.
Ce n'est pas la première incursion graphique de Jung dans le Japon médiéval, il l'a déjà mis en scène dans Kwaïdan. Ses personnages sont fins et élancés, leurs profils aquilins dégagent une élégance certaine, faisant oublier les imperfections. Le découpage est intelligent et guide bien l'action. Les couleurs à quatre mains avec la scénariste sont travaillées, plutôt chaudes (cuivrées) passées les premières pages aux tonalités froides, comme la météo et l'accueil du village.
Au bilan, une jolie fable fantastique sur l'amour, la haine, et la lâcheté des hommes. Un album de qualité qui mérite d'atterrir dans les bibliothèques (mais néanmoins rangé sur l'étagère du haut ...)
