Jung : Complètement, la Thaïlande était une première étape. C’est marrant, car ici on me prend pour un Chinois, un Thaïlandais ou un Vietnamien. Les Thaïs me prennent pour un « Yippun » : un Japonais. Quand j’essayais de leur expliquer que j’étais d’origine coréenne, que j’avais la nationalité belge par adoption et que je parlais le français, ils ne me prenaient pas au sérieux (rire). Là, je me suis rendu compte que je serai un étranger partout.


Sceneario.com : As-tu ressenti des similitudes entre la Thaïlande et la Corée ou des souvenirs que tu as pu avoir de ce pays ?

Jung : Je ne connais pas assez bien la Corée pour en parler . Mais ça me plairait beaucoup de faire une bd « reportage » sur ce futur voyage. On verra…


Sceneario.com : Parles-tu encore le coréen ? L'as-tu réappri ? As-tu des facilités pour cette langue ?

Jung : En tous cas, j’ai parlé le coréen les 5 premières années de ma vie. Je parlais un peu l’anglais aussi, paraît-il. J’ai tout oublié, forcément, mais j’aime beaucoup la musicalité de cette langue qui m’est familière même si je ne comprends rien. J’ai essayé de réapprendre un petit peu, mais j’ai des difficultés pour la prononciation. En revanche j’ai plus de facilité pour la langue japonaise. Je suis vraiment un traître à la solde des Japonais (rire). Ça me fait penser à une anecdote : en 2001 au festival d'Angoulême, j’ai rencontré un éditeur coréen à qui j’avais montré Kwaidan (publié aux éditions Delcourt). Celui-ci appréciait beaucoup le graphisme et aurait bien édité la BD dans sa langue. Seulement, il me dit gentiment que ça ne pourrait pas se faire car il craignait que le public coréen accepte mal le fait qu’un de leur « compatriote » dessine des histoires japonaises.


Sceneario.com : Ta passion pour le Japon était-elle aussi une façon de te rapprocher de tes racines ? As-tu ressenti des choses familières lors de ton voyage au Japon ?

Jung : Inconsciemment, oui. À 20 ans, quand je suis allé au Japon, dans un premier temps je me suis senti bien entouré d’asiatiques. Puis, je me suis rendu compte à quel point à l’intérieur de moi-même j’étais différent d’eux, à quel point on peut se sentir « déraciné ». Tu sais, pour moi, les choses familières sont « européennes », pas japonaises. Je suis presque convaincu que je ressentirai la même chose en Corée. Pour en revenir au déracinement, avec l’arrivée de l’internet, la démocratisation des billets d’avion, Erasmus, la délocalisation, etc..., le monde se rétrécit. Beaucoup de jeunes, ou moins jeunes, partent vivre, étudier ou travailler à l’étranger. Un jeune Français vivant à Singapour sera confronté aux mêmes problèmes qu’un Algérien né en France, ou qu’un Coréen adopté en Belgique. J’ai le sentiment de faire partie d’une avant-garde, et plus j’avance, plus je me rends compte que nous sommes de plus en plus nombreux à être dans ce cas. Le monde évolue inéluctablement dans cette direction.

Jung : Les petits ruisseaux de Rabaté en BD, The Host au cinéma, La bête aveugle de Rampo Edogawa en roman, Sainkho Namtchylak et les chansons de ma fille en musique .


Sceneario.com : Quels sont tes projets pour l'après Couleur de peau : Miel ?

Jung : Je finis le tome 2 de Couleur de peau : Miel et parallèlement je travaille sur une nouvelle trilogie japonaise avec Jee-Yun au scénario et couleurs pour Delcourt qui s’intitulera Kyoteru et dont la sortie est prévue en février 2008.
