Le Japon inspire souvent la délicatesse et le raffinement, et Kwaïdan va conforter cette image avec brio. L’histoire oscille entre le monde réel et l’illusion, entre les morts et les vivants, entre le bien et le mal. Au milieu de tout ça, le sujet principal est celui de la quête d’identité d’un personnage : Setsuko, quête qui n’aboutit pas dans ce tome d’ailleurs et il faudra patienter jusqu’au tome suivant qui boucle la série.
Pour augmenter cette ambiance de légende, Jung jalonne son histoire de nombreuses images poétiques et romantiques avec un dessin très élégant, délicat, aux traits précis et fins. Les personnages sont habillés avec des costumes qui semblent souples, drapés, légers et fluides, qui laissent un sillage dans le vent ou l'eau - élément essentiel -, qui laissent une impression vaporeuse.
Beaucoup de mouvement dans cet album et beaucoup de couleurs camaïeux, et de cet ensemble il ressort une grande sensibilité qui m'a touchée.
Très jolie histoire, un peu sombre quand même, surtout en ce qui concerne les violences imposées dans ce Japon du 12è siècle notamment à propos des croyances qui ont fait mourir tellement d'innocents ! Et puis également car je pense que Jung a largement référencé Otomo et que ce mangaka est un maître du genre (je pense à Akira par exemple )
Mais avec un dessin aussi joli il est difficile de passer à côté. A lire pour les adeptes du raffinement et pour les esprits sages ou qui veulent le croire ;-)
